Hounds Agree to Terms with Flyhalf Luke Carty
Chicago, I.L.- Today the Chicago Hounds announced they have signed Luke Carty ahead of the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The US international flyhalf spent his first two seasons in MLR with the Los Angeles Giltinis.
The Ireland native appeared in 14 games for Los Angeles in 2021, totaling 551 minutes. He carried the ball 32 times for 193 meters (6.0 meters per carry) while adding 1,779 kicking meters on his 62 kicks. He came off of the bench in the Giltinis’ championship game win over Rugby Atlanta in 2021.
Carty appeared in three contests for the Giltinis in 2022 after recovering from injury. He kicked ten successful conversions on his 11 attempts while going a perfect three-for-three on his penalty attempts, scoring 29 points in the three games.
Carty came to Major League Rugby from his native Ireland after rising through the Connacht academy, making his debut for their A side in 2016. He won an All-Ireland 1B title with the Buccaneers in 2017 and was named their player of the year in 2019.
He is expected to compete for the starting Hounds’ flyhalf position when training camp opens for the expansion franchise in early January.
