Mason Flesch Earns First XV Honors for Week 1 Performance
CHICAGO, IL- Blindside flanker Mason Flesch’s strong training camp performance continued over into the regular season on Sunday evening. The capped-Canadian international earned recognition from Major League Rugby for his Week One showing against the Miami Sharks and was named to the league’s “First XV” of the week.
The flanker played all 80 minutes of the season opener. Per MLR’s stat provider, Flesch carried the ball nine times and gained 40 meters. MLR credited the flanker with 18 ruck arrivals and six successful tackles on defense.
In addition to First XV honors, Hounds’ Head Coach Sam Harris named Flesch as the Man of the Match following the victory. The performance continued a strong run from the Canadian flanker; he was a standout performer in the preseason game against the San Diego Legion as well.
It is a week-to-week league, but Flesch has seemingly staked claim on the No. 6 shirt early on in the 2024 season.
