Maclean Jones
On July 3, 2024, the club announced a contract extension with Jones. The Hounds originally signed the Brisbane native before their inaugural 2023 season.
Jones’ enjoyed the best season of his MLR career in 2024. The flanker started 16 games, appearing in 18 total, logging over 1,200 minutes. He scored a career-high four tries while making three clean line breaks and beating 12 defenders. He established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in MLR, completing 198 tackles on the season.
In 2023, Jones’ first season with the Hounds, he earned 15 caps and started all 15 of those appearances, playing a total of 1,120 minutes. The flanker scored three tries, including a seven-pointer, on his 63 carries. He completed 188 of his 219 tackle attempts.
His career totals include 55 appearances and 50 starts for a total of 3,852 minutes. Over four seasons, he completed 672 tackles, including 34 dominant tackles. Jones touched the ball down nine times, including two seven-pointers, scoring 49 points in total.
Jones is a West Queensland, Australia native and played for St. Joseph’s Nudgee College’s first XV. He served as the vice-captain for the Australian U-20 team at a Junior World Cup and went on to earn a rugby scholarship to the University of Queensland. In 2019, Jones made his debut in Super Rugby with the Waratahs.
